This school district was originally named “Autoroad” by Mrs. John McNair. She must have been a lady of great foresight since at that time there were no roads or autos to run on them.

In 1910 the first school district meeting was held at Mr. Ennis’s home which later became the Autoroad Post Office. The school was built two miles north of the post office in 47-14-W2.

The first teacher was Miss Coutts. She was followed by Miss Ross. Some of the other teachers were: Dorothy Russell, Miss Wright, Miss Smith, Miss Venn, Mr. Bell (1946-47), Mrs. Bell (1947-48), Mrs. Marcotte (1948-51), Tom Springman (1951-53), Glenn Norby, Gordon Knuff (1955-59), and Albert Baumgartner. Mr. Joseph Hunt was a school trustee for the district for many years.

A high school room was added. The enrollment rose to sixty-five students in the two classrooms.

.
In 1924 the Canadian Pacific Railway line came through the area and in 1925 the name Autoroad was changed to Leacross, the name that had been adopted by the CPR for the railway station. The name came from “Leather River Crossing.

The school served the local community as a venue for meetings, dances, Sunday School classes and church services until a community hall was completed in 1928.

In 1953 the original school was replaced with a new one-room school building.
