Moose Range School District # 3039
Moose Range School 1951
.
The original School District of Portsmouth No. 3039 was organized May 13, 1913. The school was built on the northeast corner of NW33-48-12-W2. School classes began on Monday, June 6th, 1914. Eighteen children were enrolled the first year with Rebecca Valleau as the first teacher. Mrs. Valleau, at the age of 66, had been a pioneer teacher in Ontario for 35 years before coming west with her husband, William Valleau, Sr.
In December of 1917 the school name was changed to Moose Range after the mighty moose which roamed the area. The school building also served as a place of worship and as a community centre for social activities.
Thirty One teachers taught in the school from 1914 until it closed in 1961. The children were then bussed to Arborfield # 4864. The school was sold and moved away.
