Salopian School District # 1216
.
Families moved into the district and took up homesteads early in the twentieth century. The need for a school became evident and after many meetings the first school district board was elected. The Salopian School opened in section 22-44-14- W2 in May of 1914. W. Bacon was the first teacher. Mr. Bacon returned to England to serve in the army and lost his life early in World War One.
The school was the focal point of many of the district activities. A school picnic was held, each year, in early July. The whole district came out to visit, watch the children take part in the usual races and games, and enjoy a delicious pot luck meal together. The school Christmas Program was another big district event.
The school was closed in 1956 and the students were bussed to Tisdale. The school building was sold and moved to Tisdale.
Some of the teachers were: W. Bacon, Mr. and Mrs Hough, Mrs. C. A. McPhee, Mrs. X. Sinclair, Mrs. C Luck, Mrs. M. McPhee.
