Tisdale School District # 916 - Centennial Junior High School
Student activities were always a priority for this school and there were many extra-curricular activities available. Students developed their athletic and leadership skills as they participated in senior teams in football, soccer, volleyball, basketball, badminton, curling, softball table tennis, gymnastics, wrestling, and for the last few years a very active track team. The Student Representative Council was always a vital part of the school with students vying for these coveted positions. There were also many clubs operating throughout the school year; Glee Club, Drama Club, Yearbook, Library Club, Science Club, and for a few years there was a school newspaper, Red Cross, Safety Patrol, and Cheerleaders. For many years the Grade Nine Girls put on a fashion show in an elaborately decorated gymnasium where they modeled the garments they had sewn in their home economics class. The annual Variety Night involved a lot of students who had an opportunity to display their dramatic and musical talents. Some of the other annual highlights of each year were the school dances, Spirit Week, Track and Field or Activity Day, Awards Night, and a Christmas tea for grandparents and all seniors hosted by the SRC from 1991 - 97.
The house system was adopted for intramural sports and club activities and students earned points for their house by participating in these activities as well as for their term marks. The Grade Nine Social Studies Course included a study of Greek mythology so the house names were chosen from there - Calypso, Juno, Hercules, and Sparta. Student Vicki Ostrosky designed the school crest which was a circle composed of the letters C, J, H, and S. The school colours of black and gold were chosen.
In 1979 a Work- Experience Program was introduced into CJHS whereby some students attended classes for part of the day and worked at various places of employment in the town for the remainder of the school day. This involved about 12 to 15 students each year.
In 1997 the school was renovated and became Tisdale Elementary School and Grades 7, 8, and 9 students then attended Tisdale Middle and Secondary School.
